Ring worm infection - Fungal infection

Candid B is a local skin application that consists of Clotrimazole and betamethasone. Clotrimazole is an anti-fungal medication. Betamethasone is a steroid. Candid B is prepared by mixing above two ingredients.

Since most fungal and yeast infections cause itchiness Betamethasone helps to alleviate it. It is because steroids are useful in treating localized inflammation that causes itchiness.

Uses of Candid B skin preparation

Candid B is effective for localized fungal infections such as Ring worm (it is a misnomer and there is no worm involved in this infection) and it does not effective in widespread fungal infections. For wide spread fungal infections one need to take oral antifungal treatments. In addition, it is not very effective in fungal infection of the nails.

However, Candid B is effective in vaginal candidiasis. It can be applied outside the vagina to prevent itchiness. But inside the vagina need to be treated with vaginal anti-fungal preparations or oral anti-fungal medication.

Usually in Asian countries, unmarried girls are not prescribed vaginal antifungal preparations that are inserted into the vagina, because it can affect the hymen. For them oral anti-fungal medications such as Fluconazole 150mg are prescribed. It is absorbed from the gut and acts inside the vagina because it is a very vascular organ.

Side effects of Candid B cream

Clotrimazole can cause skin irritation. Some people can get allergic reactions but it is quite rare. Mild burning sensation, redness, and itching can occur.

Betamethasone cream can also cause skin irritation is some individuals. In addition, prolonged application can cause skin thinning.

Some fungal infections can be complicated with secondary bacterial infections. If Candid B is applied in this scenario, it can aggravate the underlying bacterial infection. Therefore, a doctor should examine the lesion before Candid B is prescribed.

If the hair lost is due to fungus infection, then it could help. Patchy hair loss can be due to fungal infections, but it could result from other causes as well.

Dear Rahul

Thanks for reading and commenting,

Candid B usually do not cause scarring. However, some fungal infections can cause scarring. It is difficult to treat scars with medications. It is especially difficult to suggest anything without seeing you. Therefore, you can get an opinion from a dermatologist.

Dear Ravi

It is difficult to give you a proper diagnosis with that information. But the possibilities are fungal, bacterial, inflammatory (eczema type) or psoriasis.

If it is fungal and inflammatory then it will respond to this medication.

However, if there is a bacterial infection going on then it will not cure (sometimes aggravate) it.

Sometimes fungal infections can get secondarily infected with bacteria and applying Candid B will worsen the bacterial infection and can even cause spreading of it.

Dear ronnie,

If it is so resistant, then the diagnosis might be wrong. You might have something else such as alopecia areata. Other possibility is not using the medications as instructed. It can develop resistance.

Usually drug resistant fungal infections are very rare. You need to be treated by an experienced dermatologist.

It is difficult to say what it is without seeing the lesion. By the description from you it is unlikely due to a fungal infection. Therefore, Candid B would not help you.
